Ware - Roberto Dematté of Ware, MA passed away surrounded by love, on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, MA. Roberto was born to the late Filiberto and Livia Dematté on July 25, 1952 in Trento, Italy.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Linda (Smith) Dematté from Ware. Roberto is survived by his sons Damian Dematté of Ware, MA, Dominic Dematté and his partner Amber of Springfield, MA, and Mirko Dematté and his wife Claudia of Pergine, Italy. He will be mourned by his daughters, Rachel Dematté and her partner Cory of West Brookfield, MA and Angela Chalnick and her husband Shawn of Plantation, FL. In addition, Roberto will be missed dearly by his 9 grandchildren, Angelica, Thomas, Emma, Grace, Lola, Alex, Riley, Jayda, and Adrienne.
Roberto was a lover of life. He was an amazing musician who could pick up and play any instrument, with guitar and flute being his favorites. He was the definition of a showman. Whether he was performing his favorite music, racing his motorcycle or RC car, or even climbing high into a jacaranda tree to get Linda a flower on their first date.
Roberto was a multi-faceted man. He had many jobs, from helping with the family business, working for the State Police, a member of the Search and Rescue Ski Patrol, and on the Border Patrol in Italy. His positive energy and warmth made it easy for him to work in the hospitality service industry as well as being a caregiver. He had a variety of construction and painting jobs, and he retired from Hampshire College in 2018 where he enjoyed working as a painter on the campus.
He loved anything fast. He was a speed skater, winning many championships, a downhill skier, a road bike racer, and a motorcycle enthusiast. He also loved watching high speed sports like formula one and motoGP.
Roberto embraced being outside, loved being in nature and relaxing by the Swift River. Throughout his life he rescued countess wild animals, including his favorite racoons Cecilia and Fabio, and his sparrow Kiwi that would fly to his shoulder upon the call of his name. Most recently, he enjoyed spending his time snuggling and playing with his dogs Adonis and Ebony.
The thing he truly loved the most, was being a father, grandfather, and a husband, as well as a second father to all the neighborhood kids that called the Dematté house, home.
A Celebration of Life for Roberto will be held on Saturday, February 25th, at St. Marys Hall in Bondsville, Massachusetts between 1pm-6pm (more information and details to follow). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted. Donations can be made at the service or through venmo @Rachel-Dematte
We encourage you to bring your favorite stories of this amazing man and an instrument to play so we can all celebrate him in life and music. Let his legend never die.
