Ware - Roger John McCarthy, of Ware, Massachusetts, died on November 2, 2024. Roger was born in Ware on May 9, 1942, to Jeanne and Leslie McCarthy. He was the second eldest of four children.
He spent his childhood in Ware, where he graduated from Ware High School in 1960.
Much of Roger’s life was dedicated to education; he enjoyed learning and teaching others. In 1964, he earned a Bachelors in Education from Keene State College in New Hampshire. He earned his Masters of Education from the University of Massachusetts in 1971. Years later in 1985, he earned his realtor license in Massachusetts.
Beginning in 1964, Roger worked as a teacher in Dover, Vermont. In 1965, he began working as a teacher with the Wilbraham, Massachusetts, school system at Stonyhill and Memorial Elementary Schools where he remained for 30 years, until his retirement in 1995.
Roger lived in both Ware and Springfield, Massachusetts for most of his life. He spent summers at his home in Lubec, Maine, where he enjoyed long walks along the ocean and having tea and visiting friends on Campobello Island in Canada. Roger also enjoyed multiple trips to Europe with his brother, reading, real estate, and staying abreast of world and community news. Roger spent his later years in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, and Westmoreland, New Hampshire.
Roger is survived by his two sisters and their spouses; Louise and Robert Anderson, of Walpole, New Hampshire, and Jane and Gerard St. Amand, of Derry, New Hampshire; his nephew and wife, Todd and Hilary Anderson, his nephew Jon Anderson and wife Vida Johnson, his niece and husband, Christina and Casey Conry; his niece and husband, Alyson St. Amand Alabi and Timothy Alabi, and his niece Kaitlyn St. Amand and fiancé Miles Hanson. He also leaves behind his Aunt Eva of Ware, Massachusetts, close friends, Hannah West, and her daughters Ann Louise and Mary of New Hampshire, as well as several cousins and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jeanne and Leslie McCarthy and his brother, Robert McCarthy.
Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 9:30 to 10:30 am at Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant Street in Ware, Massachusetts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Church, 17 North Street in Ware. Burial will be in New St. William Cemetery on Belchertown Road in Ware.
