Belchertown

Belchertown – Roseann (O’Connor) St. George, 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Palmer on October 5, 1936, she was the daughter of Maurice J. and Mary Anne (Murphy) O’Connor, who immigrated from Co. Kerry, Ireland. Roseann grew up in Palmer and attended area schools. Due to changes in her family constellation when she was a teenager, she moved to West Springfield and graduated high school there. She later matriculated at the Westfield, MA State Sanatorium so she could follow a career path of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Throughout her life, Roseann upheld high standards of nursing care, benefiting community residents of all ages for more than four decades. During her 25-plus year career at the former Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, she especially enjoyed her work in Maternity and Pediatrics. She also spent considerable time caring for patients in the Geriatric wing.

Roseann was the last of the O’Connor siblings. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by son Guy Samson and husband Raymond St. George, as well as siblings Michael (Patricia) O’Connor, John (Gertrude) O’Connor, Margaret (Nino) Donatini and Christine (Alfred) Nichols.

Roseann’s memory will forever remain with her son Kevin Samson of Ware and life partner Darcy Jurczyk, and daughters Wendy (Fred) Piche of Ware, Cindy St. George of Palmer, and Ginny St. George of Ludlow and life partner David Ferris, along with grandchildren Nicholas (Seda) Martowski, Jules (Tomi) Martowski, Evan (Erin) St. George, Carolyn (Seth Beckland) Piche, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several grandnieces and nephews.

Roseann met and married Raymond St. George of Ware in 1973, beginning a wonderful friendship and partnership that lasted 43 years. They cherished trips abroad that took them to Ireland, home of Roseann’s ancestors, to Portugal and to other destinations which provided a break from the demands of their busy professional schedules.

Roseann was a fantastic cook and frequently shared recipes. When working at Sanford, Maine’s Hillcrest Senior Nursing facility, she submitted 28 recipes to a community cookbook. Roseann loved supporting her family, cooking family dinners for her and Ray’s brood of five children and babysitting frequently upon welcoming their first grandchild.

Roseann and Ray fell in love with the Maine coastline, and following Ray’s 1987 retirement from a local bank, they relocated to Southern Maine. Roseann joined the regional workforce and continued to tirelessly advocate for respect, compassion and high-quality care for seniors at Biddeford and Sanford, Maine nursing centers, and for all in her care at the Traumatic Brain Injury Center, Kennebunk.

They moved to Leesburg, Florida in 2001 to escape Maine’s harsh, icy winters. Following Ray’s death in 2016, Roseann returned to Western Mass. to be closer to her children. She became a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and patronized the Clapp Memorial Library of Belchertown. A voracious reader throughout her life, Roseann had never met a book she didn’t like. She especially appreciated library staff selecting novels of interest for her.

A graveside service for Roseann will be held in the spring in New St. William Cemetery in Ware. Memorial donations may be made to either the Clapp Memorial Library in Belchertown online at clapplibrary.org/donate, or the Belchertown Council on Aging online at Belchertown.org/197/Donations
