Sturbridge - Walter E. Giza, 74, of Sturbridge, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He leaves his wife of 46 years, Janet L. (Harder) Giza; a son, Grant; two daughters, Jacqueline and Maxine, as well as his brother, Robert E. Giza and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Ware, son of the late Walter and Helen (Dabrowski) Giza.
Walt always loved cars, so much so that his entire career was based around them. At age 21, he started working at Carroll Motors in West Brookfield before his more than 20-year tenure as a Sales Manager at Brookfield Motors, Inc. in Brookfield. During his career, he was honored numerous times for being a top salesman in the state and providing superior customer service.
After retiring from Brookfield, Motors, Walt kept his connection with the auto industry going by working part-time at Central Mass Auto Auction in North Oxford. The job offered him the opportunity to be around cars, but most importantly, a team of colleagues and customers whose companionship he truly enjoyed.
Walt never met a person he didn't like. A gentle, kind and compassionate man, he found the good in everyone. It wasn't uncommon for Walt to come home from a trip to the store with a smile on his face, recounting a conversation he had had with the cashier or a fellow customer. As a devout Catholic, he took pride in his role as a greeter at St. Anne's Church in Sturbridge. At home, he loved all the family cats he had over the years, but raising and spending time with his children was his greatest joy and accomplishment.
A Funeral Mass for Walter will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 16 Church St., in Fiskdale and everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery following the Mass. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2021 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield. Flowers are appreciated, but memorial contributions may also be made online to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.
