Walter John Podkowka

Ware-Walter  John  Podkowka, 94, passed away on August 17th  , surrounded by family, at the home he built and had lived in for 65 years. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Doyle) Podkowka, to whom he was married for 63 years. He leaves his daughter Mildred Apps of Cromwell CT, a brother Stephen and wife Marilyn of Ware, a sister Genevieve Rys of Ware, a daughter-in-law Barbara Podkowka of Virginia Beach, a sister-in-law Shirley Podkowka of Ware, 4 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son Michael, a daughter Marie Rogowski and a granddaughter Lori Beth Rogowski. He was born in Ware son of Stanley and Catherine Podkowka and was a lifelong resident. He proudly served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. He worked as a shipping clerk for Ludlow Papers, retiring after 36 years of service. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching his garden grow, and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10am at the Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St. Burial will be in New St. William Cemetery. Calling hours will begin on Wednesday at 8:30 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., 264 Cottage St. Springfield Ma 01104.
