Wilbert A. Shover

August 15, 1929 — October 7, 2017

Wilbert  A. Shover, 88, of Valley View, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Baystate Wing Hospital.



He leaves three daughters, JoAnn M. LaVigne of Ware, Deborah J. Hare of Belchertown, and Mary J. Bessette of Barre; his son, William A. Shover of Georgia; his brother, Reginald F. Shover of Ludlow; his sister, Frieda Raymond of Williston, VT; 11 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many neices and nephews.   He was born in West Charleston, VT, son of  the late Asa W. and Fredia (McEwen) Shover.  He grew up in Vermont, and has lived in Ware for over 50 years.



Wilbert  worked as truck driver from age 20 to 74, before retiring in 2003, and rarely missed a day of work.   He drove for Palmer Trucking, and other local companies for most of his career.  Wilbert also enjoyed beef and vegetable farming, and was always a hard worker.



Mr. Shover was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.  He was a long time member of American Legion Post 123 in Ware, serving as Commander for several years.



A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Wilbert will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 1:00PM in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Ware.  There are no calling hours, and everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery.  Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St. in Ware is assisting his family with arrangements.
