Wilfred A. "Peg" Rivers, 91
West Brookfield - Wilfred A. "Peg" Rivers, 91, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
He leaves one brother, Robert Rivers of Spencer; seven sisters, Betty Lou Ord of Michigan, Beverly Gagliardi of Spencer, Iona Lamouthe of North Brookfield, Harriet Moore and her husband Robert of Auburn, Ida Lizak of Warren, Cecelia Dufault and her husband Paul of Holly Hills, FL and Mary Jane Alexander of Auburn; many nieces and nephews and his dog Princess. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Thelma L. (Waldo) Rivers in 1998 and six siblings, Richard, Pvt. Roger, Henry, Donald, William and Helen. He was born and grew up in Spencer son of the late Wilfred P. and Harriet S. (Viets) Rivers and lived there until moving to West Brookfield in 1949.
Mr. Rivers worked for Aztec Industries in North Brookfield and then owned and operated The Foster Hill Shop in West Brookfield with his wife Thelma for several years and then worked 15 years for the Galileo Corporation in Sturbridge as a machinist before retiring.
He was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer where he was a deacon and member of their bowling league. He was an avid fisherman and member of the Wickaboag Sportsman's Club in West Brookfield.
Most of all he will miss his coffee with the boys on Friday mornings.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the First Congregational Church in Spencer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the West Brookfield Rescue Squad, Inc., P.O. Box 540, West Brookfield, MA 01585. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
