William L. "Bill" Parsons, 83
East Brookfield - William L. "Bill" Parsons, 83, died Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Harrington Memorial Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Hazel R. (Parker) Parsons; three sons, John Parsons and his wife Kathy of Dracut, Richard Parsons and his wife Kathy of North Brookfield and Robert Parsons and his wife Darlene of East Brookfield; two sisters, Marilyn Brunelle and her husband Ernest of Oakham and Susan Jensen and her husband Jon of Laguna Beach, CA; six grandchildren, Ashley, Brenden, Jack, Thomas, Spencer and Emma; one great-grandchild, Shelby and many nieces and nephews. A brother, James Parsons predeceased him. He was born in Detroit, MI son of the late Worth J. and Mary (McCord) Parsons and grew up in Oakham and lived most of his life in East Brookfield.
Mr. Parsons owned and operated Parsons Auto, Inc. in East Brookfield for 31 years.
He was a Marine Corp Veteran of the Korean War.
He was a member of the Brookfield Congregational Church, the East Brookfield American Legion, the Hayden Masonic Lodge of which he was a past master, the Rambling Campers and the Melha Shriners and their mini bike unit. He served on the Babe Ruth Board of Directors and was a Cooperator for the North Brookfield Savings Bank for 34 years.
Bill served the Town of East Brookfield on the East Brookfield Fire Department for 30 years and as Fire Chief for 20 years retiring in 1996. He also served on the Board of Appeals. He was a member of the Quaboag Forest Fire Association, the Worcester Association of Fire Chiefs, the District 7 Fire Chiefs and the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts.
A Funeral Service for William will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield. Calling hours will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014 form 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in East Brookfield.
