Ware - William T. West, 77, of Ware, died on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Baystate Wing Hospital.
He leaves his wife, Mary T. (Downey) West and his daughters, Lindsay West of Ware, and Amber Ringgard and her husband Evan of Templeton. He also leaves behind his grandson whom he adored, Jaxon, as well as his cat, "Beans." William was also respected as a second father to many of his daughter's childhood friends.
He was the son of the late Howard L. West and Dorothy C. (Berry) West.
For numerous years, William worked as a long-haul truck driver transporting retail goods. Subsequently, he took on the role of driving the Quaboag Connector Bus where he enjoyed the company of the diverse riders. William found much of his joy in life through activities such as playing bocce, doing gardening and landscaping, and orchestrating his elaborate holiday displays which spread happiness through his neighborhood every year. Although he cherished these pastimes, his most beloved moments were those spent camping and fishing with his family in Rhode Island and Vermont, as well as quality time with Jaxon. William was an entertainer of all sorts. Whether it was birthday parties, barbecues, Fourth of July extravaganzas, or just keeping his family together, one was always welcome for food, drink, and a good time. The past eight years, though, were dedicated to giving his grandson Jaxon a childhood to be remembered, through sports, puzzles, and all sorts of made up, wild games. The town of Ware and his family will forever remember the light he shed and the joy he would bring through all of his social endeavors.
Mr. West was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam era.
A funeral service for William with military honors will be held in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon at a later date.
