Ware - Alfred Albrecht, 98, died on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital.

He leaves his loving wife of 70 years, Helen (Smith) Albrecht; a son, Dwight Albrecht and his wife Sally of Keene, NH; a daughter, Dorothy Dangutis and her husband John of Ware; four grandchildren, Bill and his wife Kristi, Lisa and her husband Patrick, Dwight, Jr. and Heather and her husband Spencer; two great-grandchildren, Karissa and Braydie and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three siblings, Leslie Albrecht, Mabel Hamilton and Eleanor White.  He was born in South Barre, son of the late Francis and Rose (Dill) Albrecht and grew up in Barre before moving to Ware in 1954.

Alfred worked in the textile mills, at Barre Wool Combing Company in Barre and Bay Path in Ware for many years, and then worked for 10 years at Digital in Springfield before retiring in 1985

He was a United States Army Veteran of W.W. II and was in engagements in Algeria-French Morocco, Sicily, Rome-Arno, Southern France, and Rhineland.  He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2577 where he was past Chaplin, Commander and District Commander. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion Post 2 in Barre, the American Legion Post 123 in Ware, and the Eden Lodge of Masons in Ware.  Alfred was also a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Ware, of which he was the oldest member of the church.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was very active with the youth in Ware and started the first youth baseball team.  He was also the oldest Boy Scout in the Town of Ware and received the “Citizen of the Year” plaque from the Ware Rotary Club.

A  Funeral Service for Alfred will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Charbonnneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St. in Ware.  A calling hour will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM in the funeral home.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jubilee Cupboard, P.O. Box 447, Ware, MA 01082.
