Betty A. (Jackson) Davis, 92, of Ware, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at her residence in Cedarbrook Village in Ware. She was formerly from New Braintree, where she lived for over 50 years.
She leaves two daughters, Bonnie A. LaMadeleine of Ware, and Nancy D. Burke and her husband, Mike of Manchester NH; her son, William E. Davis and his wife Kimberly of Ware; her son-in-law, James Brown of New Braintree; her brother, William Jackson and his wife Barbara of Ware; her grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Karl, Lee Ann, Harley, Kylee, Cameron, Kearstyn, and Kassandra; her great-grandchildren, Vincent and Fallon as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, William E. Davis in 1997, her daughter, Kathleen Davis Brown in 2018, and her brother, David Jackson in 2006. She was born in Ware, daughter of the late William and Elsie (Hurst) Jackson and grew up on Ragged Hill, in West Brookfield.
Betty was well known around New Braintree. She served on the Board of Assessors for over 30 years as well as other boards including Selectman and Finance. She worked as an Assessor for the Towns of Oakham and East Brookfield and assisted the State of Massachusetts with revaluations. She was a member of the Worcester County Association of Assessors and was a past president as well as the first female president of the Association.
In her limited downtime, Betty was a talented seamstress and made among other items her daughter’s wedding gowns. She loved to travel and went on many adventures with her husband as well as friends after he passed. Hating the cold, she looked forward to spending her winters in Florida where she was able to socialize with friends who also went to Florida for the winter to escape the snow and cold.
Betty was the Treasurer for the New Braintree Congregational Church for many years until for health reasons she stepped down. She was a terrific organizer and planner including organizing the church dessert table at the New Braintree Country Fair. Her children remember her creating spreadsheets to keep things organized and before that, paper lists everywhere. She always had a pencil handy and relished picking up more on a monthly trip to Spags.
Betty loved her large extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was loved by all of them and will be sadly missed.
