West Brookfield / Warren - Clifford G. Fountain, 87, of West Brookfield died on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Harrington Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his 5 children, Denise Louyakis of Southbridge, Stephen Fountain of Warren, Chrystine Paquette and her husband Jason of West Brookfield, John Fountain and his wife Lynn of West Brookfield, and Joan Cook and her husband Bryan of West Brookfield; his 10 grandchildren that he was so fond of, Nick, Dyanna, Bobbi, Sgt. Joshua J. Paquette - U.S. Air Force, Raymond, Alexia, Andrew, Sarah, Jeffrey and Lauren; he was also fortunate enough to have experienced the joy of 5 great granchildren, Colby, Rucker, Rowan, Layla and Raelyn; his brother, Milton R. Fountain of Warren, his sister, Marie O. Girouard of Warren, many nieces, nephews and close friends that were so good to him. Cliff was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Barbara E. (White) Fountain in 2007, his brother, Gerald Fountain and his brother in-law, William Girouard. He was born in Ware, son of the late Milton O. and Olive R. (St. Denis) Fountain.
Cliff was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the Adams, Coney, Frew American Legion Post #244.
He enjoyed owning and operating his junkyard on Route 67 for many years before devoting his time to work with his father. He was a licensed Real Estate agent and owned and operated Fountain Realty for many years. Cliff was devoted to serving the town of Warren. He held various positions in town, Warren Police Officer, Warren Water District Member, a Notary Public and a Civil Defense Director.
Cliff was a lifetime member of the NRA, was a licensed firearms dealer, enjoyed hunting and had a passion and love for the Quabbin. He served on the Board of Directors for the Swift River Valley Historical Society in New Salem.
He was a strong supporter of our school districts and believed our children deserved the best. Serving on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools (MARS) and Quaboag Regional School Committee for more than 30 years where he was recognized by MASC for his years of service and dedication.
Cliff was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Church in Warren and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was a very busy and active person but he always had time for his family and his friends. When someone was ill he was always there to help and visit, not just once… but through the duration of the illness.
A Funeral Mass for Cliff will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11:00AM in the St. Paul's Church, 1060 Main St., in Warren. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 from 4:30 to 7PM in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 E. Main St., in West Brookfield. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Warren following mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Quaboag Athletic Booster Club, P.O. Box 780, Warren, MA 01083 or the West Brookfield Rescue Squad, Inc., P.O. Box 540, West Brookfield, MA 01585.
