North Brookfield - Dane F. Varney, 67, of North Brookfield, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home, following a period of declining health.
He leaves his son, Christopher F. Varney and his companion Amanda Bouley; his grandson, Xander; his mother, Sylvia A. Varney of East Brookfield; three brothers, Richard “Dick” Varney and his wife Ellen of Spencer, Gene Varney and his companion Toni of East Brookfield, and Lex Varney of East Brookfield and two sisters, Pamela J. Le Beau and Diahn S. Simonelli, both of East Brookfield, as well as her nephews, Matthew Varney, Paul and Thomas Le Beau, Torrey Simonelli and his niece, Alicia R. Varney and several cousins. He also leaves his former wife, Luann (McEvoy) Varney. He was born in Ware, son of Sylvia A. (McLaughlin) Varney and the late Donald F. Varney.
Dane worked as an automotive mechanic and auto body repair technician at Varney's Garage in East Brookfield for several years, before retiring in 2018. Among vintage car enthusiasts, he was well known for his expert restoration of these vehicles when he worked for Mr. Jefferson of Brookfield and Mr. Frank Cook of North Brookfield. One of those cars was exhibited in the Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield.
He absolutely loved cars and was a genuine car enthusiast. In his spare time, he’d watch or read anything about automobiles just to learn more. He was especially fond of Ford Mustangs and older European sports cars. He recently became a grandfather and loved every minute spent with his grandson Xander.
Services for Dane will be held privately, and there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Quabbin Land Trust, P.O. Box 5, Hardwick, MA 01039-0005.
Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield is assisting his family with arrangements.
