Daniel Wilmore Obituary

Leicester - Daniel B. Wilmore, 71, of Leicester, died on Monday, February 14, 2022 following a tragic motor vehicle accident in East Brookfield.

He leaves his only sister, Jacqueline Reeves-Wilmore of Cumberland, IN, along with his niece Kathleen Ann Reeves and grandniece, Elizabeth Renee Stroup, his close friend, Kitty Knight, as well as many colleagues and friends.  He was born in Lebanon, TN, son of the late Robert A. and Georgia A. (Bohanan) Wilmore.

Daniel was a Behaviorist Technician with Nanotuck Research Associates, working with special needs adults. He was passionate about the fact that we are all disabled in one way or another starting with himself.  His mission in life was to look within, connect to others and help them see their potential to achieve greatness.  He was a proud member of the Elks Club that welcomed and supported him, his guys, and his values in these efforts.  Dan strived to stand tall among many who were struggling and would always offer a hand, a word of advice, or a joke to lighten their day.  He never met a stranger, and he never forgot the people he met in his life.

He was also a member of the The Spiritualist Church of Indianapolis. When Dan needed renewal, he would go to the beach and make a spiritual connection to his Rock located there.  He often recited Wendell Berry’s poem, The Peace of Wild Things.  “When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.  I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.  I come into the presence of still water.  And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light.  For a time, I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”

He loved from the deepest part of his soul, and we take comfort in knowing that Dan is now free, surrounded by light, and continues to send us his love.
