West Brookfield - Dermot (Jeremiah) Woods, 88, of West Brookfield, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family at home. Jeremiah was born to the late Jeremiah and Elizabeth (Galvin) Woods in Glin, County Limerick, Ireland, on October 8,1934.
He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Brede (Archbold) Woods of West Brookfield. Jeremiah will also be mourned by his daughter, Darina Segatore of Ware and his grandchildren, Jack, Molly, Dylan and James. He is also survived by his brothers John and Michael and their spouses, his sister, Teresa and her spouse, sisters Mary, Bridie Mai and Eileen, and dozens of beloved nephews and nieces and in-laws. In addition to his parents, Jeremiah is predeceased by his sisters, Lily and Margaret, his brother, William, his niece, Linda and brother-in law James McWilliams.
Jeremiah was a hardworking, family man who was known for his integrity, loyalty and his dry sense of humor. He worked as an iron worker on the Twin Towers and owned his own painting company. Jeremiah could be forever found outside, whether it was working in his vegetable garden, working the land he lived on in Ireland, caring for his horses or training dogs, with his specialty being in greyhounds. Even with all of his interests and talents, his heart and passion were with his family.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on 22 West Main Street in West Brookfield at 10am, with Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in West Brookfield, followed by a Celebration of Jeremiah’s Life for family and friends. A Calling Hour will be held from 8:30am-9:30am, prior to the Funeral Mass in Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Care Central VNA & Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 368, Webster, MA 01570.
Jeremiah’s family would like to extend their forever thanks to Care Central Hospice, especially his nurse Bryan and home care team who treated him with the utmost dignity, respect and comfort during the remaining weeks of his life.
