Elaine E. (Ruddy) Hibbard, 63, of West Brookfield, died on Friday, July 17, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She leaves her loving husband of 32 years, George F. Hibbard, Jr.; her daughter Emily E. LaBarre, granddaughter Riley and grandson Killian of Palmer; her son, Patrick G. Hibbard and her grandson Landen of West Brookfield; her mother, Beverly (Bostrom) Wentworth and her husband David of Brookfield; four siblings, Carole Paquette and her husband Norman of Brookfield, Susan Mart and her husband Daniel of Modesto, CA, Forrest Ruddy and his wife Kathleen of Tolland, CT and John Ruddy and his wife Mary of Charlton, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was born in Ware, daughter of Beverly (Bostrom) and the late John D. Ruddy.
Elaine graduated from Quabbin Regional High School where she was the senior class president, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Clark University.
Together, she and George founded and operated the Purple Onion in West Brookfield. She loved her shop and her customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. She served as a founding member of the White Christmas committee, was a committee member of the Asparagus Festival where she created the artwork and logo, and was also a member of the Browse the Brookfields business group.
She was a talented artist; who enjoyed creating pieces of art for loved ones. Her creativity was also expressed through her unique fashion sense, and her ability to inspire others to beautify their homes. She had a keen eye for design and was talented in the production of beautiful decorative displays. It brought her great joy to be able to assist others in choosing the perfect gift.
Her happiest times were spent with her grandchildren; art lessons with Riley and reading stories to Landen and Killian. She enjoyed hosting social gatherings at her Lake Wickaboag home. In the summer, Elaine was eager to invite her guests for a sunset cruise, glass of Chardonnay in hand. She was always the first one on the dance floor and the last to leave the party.
To know Elaine, was to love Elaine. Fly high with the angels, until we meet again.
