West Brookfield - Elsie A. (Paquette) Casey, died peacefully at home on Friday, October 2, 2020 at the age of 88 after a long, valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born, December 16, 1931, the daughter of Andrew J. and Stella G. (Beauregard) Paquette, she was a third-generation lifelong resident of West Brookfield. Her life was dedicated to the service of others as a devoted wife, loving mother, ambitious teacher, faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, and dedicated volunteer.
In 1953, she graduated from Boston University and then became a teacher at W.B. Elementary and later N.B. High School. She was infamous for her writing, math, and typing skills which led to a second career in the offices of Brookfield Machine, Warren Pumps, and others.
She enjoyed being healthy and active; riding horses, bowling, coaching, refereeing basketball, umpiring softball, climbing trees with her grandchildren, and walking around the lake at her winter home in Punta Gorda, FL. She volunteered for the DAV, American Legion, W.B. Senior Center, and AARP. She loved bowling, knitting, gardening, sewing, playing cards, and rooting for the Red Sox.
Elsie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Donald F. Casey, her brother Alvin and his wife Janice. She is survived by her brother Lester and his wife Eleanore; children Gail Fortin, James Casey and his wife Jo-Anne, Alison Casey, and Moira Casey-Gavin; grandchildren Alyssa, Franklin, Jared, Jesse, Megan, Matthew, John, Casey, Jenna, Michael, Torey, and Liam; great-grandchildren Chase and Aubrey. Her family extends their deep appreciation to her caregivers; daughter Alison, Alicia Rivera, and grandson Jesse who provided loving care at her home for years.
A Funeral Mass for Elsie will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 11:00AM in the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 22 West Main Street, West Brookfield. A calling hour will be held prior to the mass from 9:30-10:30AM in Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main Street, West Brookfield. Burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, West Brookfield, following mass. In accordance with current Massachusetts COVID regulations, mask must be worn and social distancing guidelines must be followed while in the funeral home and the church.
