Genevieve H. (Heffernan) Desmond

Ware - Genevieve  H. (Heffernan) Desmond, 75, passed away on June 24, 2019 after a brief illness. 

She was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late John and Veronica (Mahr) Heffernan.  She is a graduate of Franklin Pierce University and it was in college that she met her husband John Desmond.

Genevieve is survived by her loving husband John of 55 years; her children, Mary Daley and her husband Paul of Ware, Michael Desmond and his wife Barbara of Sturbridge and Ann Desmond and her partner Chris Pursell of Ware; her grandchildren, Jessica Daley, Emily Daley, Paul Daley Jr. and Christopher Desmond. She was predeceased by her grandson, Paul Desmond Daley in 1998.

Genevieve taught in the Ware School System and worked at Belchertown State School.  While she loved her time with friends and family, her most cherished moments were spent with her beloved grandchildren.

She was a communicant of All Saints Church, was a chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, State Auditor and a past regent and active member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Her hobbies included; sewing, crafts, reading and tending to her plants. 

A Funeral Mass for Genevieve will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10:30AM in All Saints Church, 17 North Street in Ware.  Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 5 to 7 in the Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., in West Brookfield.  Burial will be in New Saint William's Cemetery in Ware.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Daughters of Isabella circle106, c/o Carol DeSantis, 307 Belchertown Road, Ware, MA  01082.
