Hardwick - James A. Crabtree, 70, of Hardwick, died on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at his home.
He leaves his wife of 17 years, Karen M. Dorsey Girard-Crabtree and their daughter Gabriella. He also leaves his 2 daughters, Stacey and Tiffany whose mother Gail predeceased Jim; six grandchildren, Ariel, MJ, Richie, Antonio, Annicka, Brandon; his three step-children, Richie, Tiffany and Brittany and six step-grandchildren, Ruari, Raiden, Olivia, Remi, Logan and Lyla; and his brothers, William “Billy” Crabtree and his wife Sandra of Cape Cod and David Crabtree of Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews. James was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth, Nancy, and Barbara; his brother Brian “Buzzy”, and his sister-in-law Heidi. He was born in Wareham, son of the late George and Rita (Morrissette) Crabtree and was originally from Cape Cod.
Mr. Crabtree is a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War where he trained and served as an aircraft engine mechanic.
Jim had many jobs during his life but was most proud of working as a chef in Ware at the former Granary. He retired from Waste Management as a site engineer after 10 years of service.
He was an artist and enjoyed fishing, playing pool, going to auctions but mostly he loved metal detecting. Jim was especially known around town for his “supersized” coffee mug he would carry around to the local coffee shops.
Burial with Military Honors in the National Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Bourne is being planned for a later date.
Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware is assisting his family with arrangements.
