James M. Evans, 70

West Brookfield – James M. Evans, 70, of Pierce Road., died Friday, May 20, 2016 at his home following a short illness.

He leaves his mother, Bertha E. (Hibbard) LeBlanc of North Brookfield; two brothers, Robert T. Evans and his wife Patricia of Linden, NJ, and Steven M. Regula of Cromwell, CT; nine nieces and nephews; and his long time good friend, Bernice Stone of Oakham.  He was predeceased by his sister, Caroline Willard in 1995. James was born in Ware, MA, son of the late James P. Evans, and lived most of his life in West Brookfield.  

James was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War.

Upon leaving the service, Jim worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years, and worked many years for Gagliarducci Construction in Indian Orchard. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 98 and was known for being a highly skilled operator of all types of large construction equipment. James retired in 2001, and enjoyed working in and outside his home, maintaining his property. He was also known for his wonderful gift of long conversation.

Funeral services will be held privately.  Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in West Brookfield.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:  Notre Dame Hospice, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
