West Brookfield - John E. Mattison, 82, of West Brookfield, died on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center.
He leaves his loving wife, Lucille (Chervanick) Mattison; his son, John Mattison, Jr. and his wife Jill of New York; two daughters, Christine St. Laurent and her husband Scot of West Warren and Lisa Nurek and her husband Stanley also of West Warren; his sister, Geraldine Bruiely of New York; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, Wyat, Angela, Andrew and Daniel; his great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ryder, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his four brothers. He was born in Horseheads, New York, son of the late Lester and Irene (Bliss) Mattison.
John worked as an engineer in fiber optics manufacturing before his retirement.
John was a loving and devoted husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and tending to his vegetable garden that at times could have feed the entire town. John was a member of the New England Beagle Club, loving and raising his dogs and training them to hunt rabbits. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, often showcasing his projects at local craft fairs. He was also known for gathering up his kids and neighborhood children and taking them all for ice cream.
No services are scheduled and at his request, he will be scattered at his favorite fishing spot.
