East Brookfield - Raymond O. Barnes, Jr., 81, of East Brookfield died on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.
He leaves his wife, Anne Barnes; his children; Michael Barnes, Raymond Berard, Gail Bassett and her husband Brian, Lisa Giguere and her husband Stephen and Peter Sablack and his wife Darlene; his brother, Richard Barnes and his wife Catherine and their sons, Richard Jr. and his wife Kristen and Roger and sister-in-law, Sandra Barnes and her sons, Ronald Jr. and his wife Justine, Robbie and his wife Michelle; his grandchildren, Christina Berard and Francis Berard; his great-grandchildren, Austin, Amber, Tori, Tyler, Mariah, Anthony, Kenzie, Tori and her husband Kyle, John and his fiance Lauren; his great-great-grandchildren, Kennedy and one more on the way, also his foster daughter, Susan Eldred and her husband Ralph and granddaughters, Tiffany and Charlotte Schmidt and her husband Pat along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Judy Berard and his brother, Ronald Barnes. He was born in North Brookfield, the son of the late Raymond Sr. and Olive (Prindle) Barnes.
Ray was a self-employed contractor his whole life. Working with tractors, trucks and bullbozers in his excavating business for over 50+ years at Ray Barnes Jr. General Excavating Inc. where he would help out anyone he could.
Raymond was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed dearly by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing or working with him
A Graveside Service for Ray will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11AM in Evergreen Cemetery in East Brookfield followed by a Celebration of Life at his home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Assoc. of Massachusetts/New Hampshire, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA, 02452 or alz.org/manh
