Raymond Brodeur Obituary

Brookfield - Raymond E. Brodeur, 97, of Brookfield, died on Monday, January 18, 2021, at his son’s home in Palmer with his family by his side.  Ray stayed active and lived independently up until just a few weeks ago.

He leaves two sons, Raymond E. Brodeur, Jr. and his wife Mary of Palmer and David R. Brodeur of Warren; his daughter, Judith Bedwell and her husband Kevin of Athol, Idaho; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Breatrice Brodeur in 2007 and his 3 brothers, Norman, Merrill, and Carl.  He was born in Warren, son of the late Homer and Maria (Berthiaume) Brodeur, and grew up on the family dairy farm in West Warren.  He lived in West Brookfield for 35 years, prior to moving to Brookfield in 1996.

Ray worked as poultry farmer for over 20 years at the former T&R Poultry in Warren.  He was also a machine operator at the former American Optical Corp. in Southbridge for 20 years, before retiring in 1986.

Raymond loved his large extended family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren.  To them he was Pepé, and he always enjoyed their company, and they relished his wisdom and experiences.

Ray credits his long, well fulfilled life to God.  He was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Church in Brookfield and the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in West Brookfield.

He was active with the West Brookfield Senior Center, enjoyed bowling, and following the Red Sox.  In 2004, he was happy to be able to finally share in the celebration of their World Series win after 86 years.
