Renate M. (Mix) Lowy

Sturbridge/Brookfield - Renate M. (Mix) Lowy, 83, of Sturbridge, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Southbridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

She leaves her two sons, Thomas W. Lowy and his wife Vy of Anchorage, Alaska, and Robert O. Lowy and his wife Elena of Federal Way, Washington; her daughter, Barbara M. Flannery and her husband Michael of Sturbridge; one sister, Brigitta Grunwald and her husband Ulli of Nurnberg, Germany; 4  grandchildren, Patricia Neidich and her husband Stephen of Mars, PA, Katherine Murphy and her husband Michael of Sturbridge, and Ashley Lowy and Justin Lowy both of Federal Way, WA; 3 great-grandchildren, Olivia Rose and Penelope Grace Neidich and Maura Claire Murphy, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Wolfgang D. Lowy in 1998, as well as her brothers.  She was born in Hamburg, Germany, daughter of the late Werner and Hildegard (Heidorn) Mix, and lived in Sturbridge and Brookfield for over 50 years.

Renate was a loving homemaker; who enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, playing the piano, biking, and traveling.  She was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sturbridge.  She participated in several charity rides, including the PanMass challenge numerous times.  All that knew Renate were humbled by her tenaciously positive attitude for life.

A Funeral Service for Renate will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020, at 10:00AM in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 345 Main St., in Sturbridge.  In order to comply with social distancing guidelines, participation in the service at the church is limited to family members only.  The service will be live streamed through the church’s Facebook page at Facebook BethlehemSturbridge for everyone else.  There are no calling hours.  Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 345 Main St., Sturbridge, MA 01566 or to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
