Robert D. Rutter, 86

Belchertown/West Brookfield – Robert D. Rutter, 86, died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Wingate in South Hadley after a period of declining health.

He leaves his beloved wife of 39 years, Janet E. (Walker) Rutter; a son, Derrick D. Rutter of Murfreesboro, TN; a daughter, Robin E. Nugent of Worcester; two brothers, Clifford M. Rutter of Warren, and Alden B. Rutter of Belchertown; a sister, Betsy E. Rutter of Monson; four grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.  Robert was born in Pittsfield, son of the late Robert F. and Marjorie E. (Delano) Rutter.  He was raised in Warren, and lived in West Brookfield for many years before moving to Belchertown a few years ago.  He was a graduate of the former Warren High School, and attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Robert worked in Sales and Engineering at Warren Pumps for 42 years before retiring in 1992.

He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Bob was a former member of the Warren Federated Church, the Adams-Coney-Frew Post 244 American Legion in West Brookfield, and the Korean War Veterans of Massachusetts.

A funeral service for Robert will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield.  Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 AM prior to the service.  Burial will be held privately at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
