Ruth Lizak Obituary

Warren - Ruth J.(Mitchell) Lizak, 83, of Warren passed away peacefully at home with her nephew, Bobby and his poodles, Wil and Grace by her side, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.  She was born to her most beloved parents, the late Robert G. and Gertrude G. (Mackechnie) Mitchell, also of Warren, on April 19, 1939.

Ruthie will be deeply missed by her caregiver and best friend, her Godson and nephew, Robert A. Mitchell of Houston, TX. She will be mourned by her nieces, Brenda Mitchell and her partner Kara Smith, of Warren, Paula Walker of Brimfield, and Nicole Lincoln and her partner Adam Nothe of Warren. In addition to Robert, Ruthie will be missed by her other nephew, Jim Mitchell, his wife Jean of Brimfield and their children, Daniel and Katie. Ruthie’s absence will also be deeply felt by her beloved cousins, Bonnie Bierowka, Heather Kenyon and Bruce Mackechnie, along with their families. Just weeks ago, Ruthie remarked how much she loved her family.  Ruthie was predeceased by her parents, and her loving husband of 35 years, Adolph M. Lizak, who passed away in 2005. Ruthie lost her dear brothers, George Mitchell in 2005, and Robert “Bobby” Mitchell in 2012.  Not a day has gone by that Ruthie did not long to see them again.

Ruth was a faithful and loyal friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her, from childhood friends she’d known for decades to work colleagues she’d only recently met.  Her prolific cards and letters and long phone conversations are legend among those who knew and loved her.  Her compassion, quick wit, sense of humor, kindness and loving nature all combined to make her a treasure to us all.  Ruthie simply sparkled, no doubt a reason she was chosen Miss Warren to represent her town at the 300th Anniversary of Quaboag Plantation.

Besides her many deep friendships, she will also be remembered for her faith, strong work ethic and public service.  She worked for many years in administration for Perkins Machine Company, Friendly’s Ice Cream, Quaboag Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Warren, often while working nearly as many hours assisting her husband with his business, Quaboag Auctioneers.  She served her community in various volunteer capacities, including the Planning Board and the American Legion in West Brookfield, where she served as Assistant Chaplain. She was incredibly proud of her country and her family members who served in the military, especially her husband Adolph, and brothers, Bobby and George. She had many cherished activities and hobbies over the years, no doubt contributing to her many friendships.  Most notably, she loved golfing with friends, playing with her many poodles, dancing ballet and jazz, even learning the Polish language!

A Funeral Service will be held at First Congregational Church of West Brookfield on 36 North Main Street at 11am on March 22, 2023.
