Shirley M. (Sprague) Hamill

Warren - Shirley M. (Sprague) Hamill, 87, of Warren, died on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Harrington Memorial Hospital.

She leaves her daughter, Beth E. Simmons and her husband Matthew of Brookfield; her three sons, Craig Hamill and his wife Gail of Palm Bay, Florida, Brian Hamill and his wife Linda of Warren, and Mark Hamill and his wife Kelly of Woodstock, CT, as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  She also leaves her brother, David Sprague and his wife Rachel of Sturbridge and her best friend, Gisele Mongeon.  She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, James C. Hamill in 2015, their son, Scott Hamill in 1995, and her oldest friend, Jeanne Gauthier.  She was born in and grew up in Worcester, daughter of the late Dexter and Dorothy (Morter) Sprague.

Shirley worked for AT&T as an operator, most notably during the flood of 1955.  She did a little bit of everything, and worked at Brookhaven Rest Home in West Brookfield as a nurse’s aide for 10 years. What she enjoyed most was being a devoted wife to James, and a mom and grandmother and great-grandmother.  She was a great pet lover and was devoted to her cat Patches and her dog Cleo.

Services for Shirley will be held be privately in Pine Grove Cemetery in Warren.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
