Ware - Thomas Joseph Allis, 72, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 peacefully at his home in Ware, after a battle with cancer.
Tommy was born on June 30, 1949 in Ludlow to the late Kenneth Allis and Cecelia (Lesniak) Allis. He was the youngest of three children; Robert Allis (who preceded his death) and Nancy (Allis) Foster.
Tommy was drafted to fight in the Vietnam War in 1969. Once he returned, he worked at UniRoyal Tire Co. for 16 years. He then worked at Osborne Correctional Facility (formerly Somers Correctional) for 20 years, before finally retiring in June 2001. Tommy spent the following years in retirement traveling around the United States, tending to his ever-growing vegetable gardens, fishing the local rivers, and deer hunting (although some would say he was more of an observer than a hunter). He often took time to sneak away to Hampton Beach, NH to saltwater fish and enjoy the ocean. In the later years, Tommy spent most of his time watching sports with his sons and coming up with elaborate plans to spoil his grandchildren. For those who met him, they knew of his big heart, hilarious stories, and constant one-liners.
He is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; his two sons, Jason and Erik and his wife Jenna; sister, Nancy Foster and her husband Kevin; his two beloved grandchildren, Harper and Landon; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Tommy was laid to rest at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam in a private funeral ceremony. A Celebration of Life for Tommy is being held on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 2 to 4pm at the Holiday Inn Express, 321 Center Street in Ludlow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
Charbonneau Funeral Home, 30 Pleasant St., in Ware is assisting his family with arrangements.
