Walter R. Guertin

West Brookfield - Walter R. Guertin 88, of West Brookfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. 

He was born in Oxford, MA on July 13, 1935, the tenth child of eleven children to Joseph V. and Clara (Laramie) Guertin.  He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joanne(Currier) Guertin, residents of West Brookfield since 1964; three children, Wendy (Guertin) Kupec and her husband Ray of West Brookfield, Greg and his wife Lene of North Brookfield, and Walter, Jr. of Ware; ten grandchildren, Stephen, Andrew, Benjamin, Gregory, Jr., Krystal, Nicholas, Brendan, Lucas, Jacob, and Skye; four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Hunter, Emma and Calvary; three sisters, Mary “Biddy” (Guertin) Stefanov of Avon, CT, Ruth Gibbons (Guertin) of Hudson, NY and Loraine (Guertin) Favreault of Worcester; one brother, Clifton “Franny” Guertin of Williamsburg, VA as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families whom he loved so much.  Walter was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Claire “Cookie” (Guertin) Pelletier of Worcester and five brothers, Edward “Sonny” Guertin of Shrewsbury, Lawrence “Toots” Guertin of Chula Vista, CA, George “Buddy” Guertin of Worcester, Paul Guertin of Charlton and Joseph “Ray” Guertin of St. Pete Beach, FL.

Walter worked for many years at Brookfield Wire before establishing his own wire business until his retirement in 1997.  He enjoyed family, relaxing and maintaining the pool, gardening, growing tobacco, and biking.  He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the many lives he touched. 

A private Celebration of Walter’s Life will be held at a later date for the family.
