Oakham - William D. “Bill” Herrick, 70, of Oakham, died on Monday, August 9, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester following a courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 39 years, Maura J. (Nykiel) Herrick; four sons, Travis J. Herrick and his wife Maggie of Sturbridge, Wade A. Herrick and his companion Cathy of Marlborough, William B. Herrick and his wife Sheila of Plymouth, and David J. Herrick and his wife Jessica of Plympton as well as 7 grandchildren, whom he adored, Amy, Rory, Bowden, Tegan, Nolan, Liam, and Genevieve Herrick. He also leaves his sister, Peggy Herrick Phillips and her husband, Max of Arcadia, Florida, and his brother, James L. Herrick of Minnesota. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara G. Johnson. Bill was born in Southbridge, son of the late James W. and Lillian G. (Farr) Herrick.
Along with his son, Travis, Bill owned Herrick and Sons, Inc. in North Brookfield. For the past 51 years, they did sheet metal fabrication as well as a Meyers snow plow distribution. Few things brought more excitement to Bill than the promise of a big snowstorm.
Hunting was his life and he had a strong appreciation for wildlife. It was not only a hobby but a lifetime mission. Bill was an avid New England sports fan and always welcomed family and friends to his house to watch the Red Sox and Patriots. He also coached Little League, inspiring children to love the game.
Bill spent his summers golfing at Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club in Oakham where he was a long-time member. He was also a member of the Brookfields Lions’ Club for 45 years. Bill was a past President and received the Melvin Jones and Joseph J. Camarda Fellowship Awards. He served as a Corporator for the North Brookfield Savings Bank for 35 years.
He was a true family man who loved spending time with his seven grandchildren and he made sure to facilitate a yearly fishing trip to Lake Ontario with his four sons.
A Celebration of Life for Bill will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 1:00PM at Bill and Maura's home, 327 South Road, Oakham, MA 01068.
